Pig sector meeting around BDporc

Today, June 11, at the IRTA Fruitcentre facilities in Lleida, the pork sector meeting took place around the BDporc platform, managed by IRTA with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and ANPROGAPOR. The meeting was attended by a representative group of managers and technicians from the main pork producing companies in the State, as well as representatives of the Ministry and ANPROGAPOR.

The BDporc is a representative data bank and a digital platform at the service of the pig sector that offers reference information, provides member companies with tools for benchmarking and recognizes the best farms in the annual edition of the Porc d’Or Awards. BDporc manages the data of almost one million breeding stock, which represents around 50% of the national census.

Presentation of the new BDporc

After a welcome by the Director of Institutional Relations of the IRTA, the researchers of the Animal Genetics and Improvement Program presented to the sector representatives the new developments of the BDporc and its new platform, which has been reformulated with the aim of renewing, optimizing and scale the BDporc system, integrate new data sources and new indicators, improve and extend comparative analysis and incorporate predictive analysis. Likewise, the different criteria considered in the Porc d’Or Awards have been evaluated to recognize the good work of livestock professionals in the pig sector.

After the presentation of the new BDporc, the meeting has entered the phase of discussion and collection of proposals, concerns and expectations regarding digital platforms and the BDporc, as well as the possible changes that may be implemented in the Porc d’Or Awards.

“BDporc is conceived as a service to the pig sector, and must meet the requirements and needs of its professionals. That is why we feel particularly satisfied with the result of this day” comments Raquel Quintanilla, Head of the IRTA Animal Genetics and Improvement Program.
