Aragon, Galicia and Catalonia lead the list of winners of the Porc d’Or Awards 2026

The 33rd Porc d’Or Awards gala, held on October 30, 2026, welcomed over 650 attendees to Santiago de Compostela.

Effort and excellence: the recognition given to the country’s most outstanding pig farmers.

Granja Pellicer, part of Vall Companys Grup, in Valderrobres (Teruel), received the Porc d’Or Diamond, the highest honor of the evening.

The excellence of Spanish pork production was on full display this time in Santiago de Compostela. More than 650 professionals from the sector participated in the 33rd edition of the Porc d’Or White Coat Awards, held at the Galicia Conference and Exhibition Centre. As always, farmers, technicians, companies, researchers, and organizations linked to the entire value chain gathered.

For the first time, the Porc d’Or White Coat Awards were held in Galicia, one of the regions with the strongest presence at the competition in recent years. Choosing its capital city as the venue allowed the awards to be presented to a region closely linked to pork production and recognized the importance of its farms and professionals within the sector as a whole. Galicia led the awards in the 2015 edition, receiving 16 accolades.

Organized by IRTA, CEVA Animal Health, and the Interprofessional Association of White-Coat Pigs (INTERPORC), the awards recognize farms each year that stand out for their technical and production results, continuous improvement, and commitment to aspects such as sustainability, animal health, and welfare. The 2026 edition began with 89 farms nominated in the technical and production categories, with a total of 118 applications, in addition to the finalists for the three Special Awards.

Aragon leads the list of winners of the 33rd edition

The awards have been distributed among farms in various autonomous communities, reflecting the strength and diversity of the sector throughout the country. However, the Aragon region led the winners of the 33rd Porc d’Or Awards, accumulating 13 awards and taking the top spot. The host community follows with 11 awards, and Catalonia, with 7, completes the podium in an edition that has once again highlighted the high technical and productive level of Spanish pig farms.

The Porc d’Or Awards are structured in four categories based on the number of breeding sows on each farm and recognize four indicators: Numerical Productivity, Farrowing Rate, Longevity, and Lactation Management. Nominations are determined by analyzing the technical and production information registered in BDporc and allow for comparison of farms of similar size.

By category, the Gold awards went to:

Up to 500 breeding sows: Manuel Fonseca Díaz, Coren de Rairiz de Veiga in Ourense (Numerical Productivity), Cabana Negra, Grup Gepork de Solsona in Lleida (Farrowing Rate), Jose Maria Parente, Coren de Maceda in Ourense (Longevity), and Jose An. Cortés Palacios and others, Coren in Nogueira de Ramuín in Ourense (Management During Lactation).

Between 501 and 1,000 breeding sows La Puebla – Agropecuaria del Isábena, Mazana Piensos Compuestos de La Puebla de Castro in Huesca (Numerical Productivity), Agropecuaria Ferrero Pérez S.C., Agrocesa – Grupo Vall Companys in Quiruelas de Vidriales in Zamora (Farrowing Rate), Expordi, Explotaciones Porcinas Díaz de Valdelosa in Salamanca (Longevity), and Navarro – Las Barreras, Cuarte SL of Marchena in Seville (Lactation Management).

Three Special Awards to recognize excellence beyond productivity results

In addition to the technical and production categories, the gala presented three Special Awards, recognizing farms that excel from a global perspective and in strategic areas for the present and future of the sector.

The Porc d’Or Diamond Award, the highest honor of the Porc d’Or Awards, was awarded to Granja Pellicer, part of Vall Companys Grup, located in Valderrobres (Teruel). The jury highlighted its excellent and balanced reproductive results, the outstanding longevity of its sows, and the meticulous management of its sows and piglets, as well as the implementation of innovative measures to improve welfare and reduce mortality during lactation and after weaning.

The MAPA Porc d’Or Sustainability Award has been given to Granja Bendoiro, owned by Nudesa, located in Bendoiro – Lalín (Pontevedra). This farm stands out for its commitment to sustainability, biosecurity, and animal welfare, particularly for its development of a digital twin for animal monitoring and its sustainable integration into the environment.

Meanwhile, the Porc d’Or One Health Award from Ceva Animal Health has recognized Agrorozas, located in Poio (Pontevedra). This award acknowledges the collaborative work between veterinarians and farmers, their strict biosecurity and prevention measures, the excellent health status of their animals and very limited use of antibiotics, as well as the training and commitment of their team.

The three awards complete a list of achievements that demonstrates how the excellence of a farm goes beyond its productive results and increasingly incorporates dimensions linked to sustainability, health, animal welfare, professionalization and comprehensive management.

In addition to the special awards, the IRTA special award was also presented to José Luis Agüero Monedero, Deputy Director General of Livestock and Hunting Productions at MAPA, for his commitment throughout all these years to the BDporc project and the Porc d’Or awards.

More than three decades recognizing the evolution of the pork sector

Since 1994, the Porc d’Or Awards have established themselves as one of the main technical recognitions of Spanish pigs and as a meeting point to value the work and good practices of farms.

The awards are based on BDporc, the Spanish Pig Data Bank, developed and managed by IRTA, which gathers information from 575 farms and more than 917,000 breeding sows and generates objective references to support analysis and decision-making.

Coinciding with this new stage, BDporc has also presented a new video that reviews its career, its contribution to the sector and the challenges that guide its work. The piece shows how the platform transforms technical-productive data into useful knowledge for farms, research and continuous improvement of the sector.

The video also presents the renewal of BDporc and the new possibilities offered by its new digital platform, with visualization tools, benchmarking, personalized reports and automated data submission to move towards more efficient, competitive and sustainable pork production.

A gala backed by the industry

The Porc d’Or White Coat Awards are organized by IRTA, with INTERPORC and Ceva Animal Health as co-organizers, and are supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the main entities in the sector.

The organizers also express their gratitude for the commitment of premium sponsors Farm Faes, IFR Group, OPP Group, Sabseg, and Semen Cardona, as well as all the other sponsors and collaborators who have contributed to making this 33rd edition possible.
