Santiago de Compostela will host the 33rd edition of the Porc d’Or White-Coat Pig Awards.
Santiago de Compostela will host the 33rd edition of the Porc d’Or Awards for White-Coat Pigs, taking place on October 30, 2026, at the Galicia Congress and Exhibition Centre. The choice of city reinforces the organizers’ commitment to regions with a rich livestock-farming tradition and strong ties to the pork sector; this edition will once again bring together producers, technical experts, companies, researchers, and institutions from across the entire value chain.
Organized by IRTA, with CEVA Animal Health and the Interprofessional Organization for the White-Coat Pig Sector (INTERPORC) as co-organizers, the Porc d’Or Awards represent one of the premier accolades for technical and production excellence in the Spanish pork industry. Furthermore, they have established themselves as a forum for sharing knowledge, driving innovation, and recognizing the day-to-day work carried out on farms.
Registration open to attend the gala
Registration for the gala is now open and can be completed via the official BDporc website. Attendance requires prior registration and confirmation from the organizers.
The awards ceremony will bring together around 1,000 professionals from the swine sector, including representatives from farms, companies, industry organizations, public authorities, and research centers. The event will serve to recognize best practices and highlight the sector’s commitment to continuous improvement toward more efficient and sustainable pork production.
BDporc launches new platform: more analysis and new tools for the sector
As a prelude to the new edition of the Porc d’Or Awards, the new BDporc platform was officially launched on September 16th. The event took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) on Gran Vía (Madrid), during a conference organized by the CAP Network in collaboration with IRTA.
The meeting brought together representatives from public administrations, sector organizations, companies, and technical teams to unveil a revamp that represents a further step in the digitization of a tool that, for more than thirty years, has generated benchmark technical and production information for the Spanish pork sector.
Currently, BDporc collects information from 575 farms (490 white pig farms and 85 Iberian pig farms), representing more than 917,885 breeding sows. This high level of representativeness allows for the generation of solid and useful technical and production benchmarks for the entire sector.
Among the main new features of the platform are the development of an API to automate the transmission of information from farm management software, as well as a new interactive interface that allows users to create customized queries and reports, select different indicators and analysis periods, and compare the results of a farm or company with benchmark groups.
The new visualization, analysis, and benchmarking tools facilitate the detection of trends and deviations, and allow for the faster identification of strengths and areas for improvement. The platform also incorporates a personalized alert system, questionnaires to characterize farms, and the ability to consult the Porc d’Or Award history for each farm.
For companies, users can consult the overall and individual results of their farms, establish internal rankings by indicators, and analyze their positioning relative to other benchmark groups. All of this is done while maintaining data confidentiality and ownership at all times.
The event also showcased the evolution of BDporc, the platform’s new functionalities, and the projects currently underway that will lead to future platform developments. This evolution reinforces BDporc’s role as the technical foundation for the Porc d’Or Awards and as a tool serving a sector facing new challenges in terms of efficiency, competitiveness, sustainability, and biosecurity.
89 farms nominated, the protagonists of the 33rd edition
The 33rd edition of the Porc d’Or White Coat Awards will feature 89 nominated farms in the technical-production categories, totaling 118 nominations. Nominations are based on an analysis of data recorded in BDporc and recognize farms that have excelled over the past year for their results and progress in various management indicators.
The awards are structured into four categories according to farm size, and in each category, four prizes are awarded based on the evaluation of key indicators related to sow longevity, numerical productivity, reproductive management and fertility, and piglet management and survival during lactation.
The nominations also reflect BDporc’s broad territorial representation. Aragon leads the technical-productive nominations, with 34 nominations, followed by Galicia, with 28 nominations; Catalonia, with 26 nominations; and Castile and León, with 16 nominations.
Three Special Awards to recognize excellence in the sector
In addition to the technical and production awards, there are the Special Awards, which recognize farms that have stood out from a global perspective and in strategic areas for the evolution of the swine sector. This year, the Porc d’Or with Diamond, the MAPA Porc d’Or for Sustainability, and the Porc d’Or One Health will be awarded.
The nominees for the Porc d’Or with Diamond, the highest honor of the awards, are: Granja Pellicer, part of Vall Companys Grup, in Valderrobles (Teruel); Granja Valfarta, part of Cooperativa d’Ivars d’Urgell, in Sena (Huesca); and SAT 4835 Urra-Zurucuáin, part of Piensos Costa, in Zurucuáin (Navarra).
The nominees for the MAPA Porc d’Or Sustainability Award are: Cerdos Deluxe, from Piensos Costa, in Tauste (Zaragoza); Granja Bendoiro, from Nudesa, in Bendoiro-Lalín (Pontevedra); and Pork Calanda, from Piensos Costa, in Samper de Calanda (Teruel).
Meanwhile, the nominees for the Porc d’Or One Health Award are: Agrorozas, from Agrorozas, in Poio (Pontevedra); Granja Les Planes, from Pinsos Grau S.A., in El Pla de Santa María (Tarragona); and Pork Calanda, from Piensos Costa, in Samper de Calanda (Teruel).
A consolidated recognition for Spanish pork
Since their first edition in 1994, the Porc d’Or Awards have established themselves as one of the leading technical recognitions in the Spanish pork sector. Organized by IRTA, with INTERPORC and CEVA Animal Health as co-organizers, they are supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the main sector entities, and by five premium sponsors: Farm Faes, IFR Group, OPP Group, Sabseg Banasegur, and Semen Cardona, in addition to other sponsors and collaborators.
More than three decades after their creation, the awards continue to recognize the efforts of farms and professionals working towards increasingly efficient, competitive, and sustainable pork production, while simultaneously incorporating new digital tools and data-driven knowledge to support the sector’s evolution.
The Santiago de Compostela gala will once again be a meeting point to recognize this work, share progress and strengthen collaboration between the different agents in the value chain.
