User’s manual

BDporc is a representative database and a digital platform of the pig sector created at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), the National Association of Pig Producers (ANPROGAPOR) and the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA). BDporc offers reference information, provides benchmarking and decision support tools to its affiliated pig companies.

The main objective of the BDporc is to offer a set of interactive services that allow, without the need for specific software, immediate access to the information generated by the BDporc and to various tools for decision making and analysis of the results of the swine sector, in the strategic area of companies and public entities.
This online access to all the information generated by the BDporc System represents an unique initiative in the sector and an important advance in the systems of distribution and access to production results.

BDporc provides users with services that are easily accessible from any device and in any geographic location:

  • Online access to the information generated by BDporc,
  • Access to analysis and decision support tools
  • Interactive and customized report generation
  • Progressive incorporation of new tools and utilities.

In order to adapt to different needs, the BDporc System includes three different areas:

  • Pig companies,
  • Public entities,
  • Other users (public access).

Thus, the BDporc home page gives private intranet access to two types of users (companies and institutions) where the main services linked to the BDporc system are offered.

Intranet area for companies
This section is for those companies adhered to BDporc, which have a user code and a password to guarantee the security and confidentiality of the data.
BDporc allows immediate and personalized access to the information generated by the BDporc Information System, facilitating a wide set of tools for results analysis and decision making.

Briefly, the main contributions of BDporc to companies are as follows:

  • Permanent and protected access to all the company’s own data from any location.
  • Immediate integration of the company’s data with the information generated periodically by BDporc (reference standards) for a joint analysis.
  • Availability of tools to facilitate the analysis of results and help in the company’s own decision making.
  • Permanent electronic access to all of the company’s performance reports prepared by BDporc on a regular basis.
  • Tools for the interactive generation of customized reports and graphs of the company’s own results.

Intranet area for institutions
This area is designed to provide public entities, upon request, access to the information (duly anonymized) generated by the BDporc System that could be of interest in the scientific, academic and/or administrative fields.

In short, BDporc offers institutions:

  • Permanent access to the information generated by the BDporc, e.g., the reference standards developed periodically.
  • Tools for evolutionary analysis of results.
  • Tools for comparative analysis of results.
  • Tools for interactive report generation.
  • Predictive production analysis.

In no case, this area allows access to individual company data, respecting at all times the privacy and confidentiality of the same.

ATTENTION: The intranet part of BDporc is currently under renovation. Temporarily, access to the intranet part must be done through the old BDporc portal. We look forward to providing you with access to the new Intranet shortly.

Temporarily, to access the intranet part of BDporc, click on the top left button “User Access” which will redirect us to the old BDporc screen where we must choose the language of preference. After choosing the language, click on the continue button to access another old BDporc screen. In the upper right part of the screen there are some text boxes in which we will have to enter the USER code and the PASSWORD that will be provided to each company adhered to the BDporc in a totally confidential way.

At this point we will enter the user name and password to be able to access the BDporc utilities reserved for swine production companies, as well as the visualization of our company’s data and those of the various reference groups.

Once we have entered as a company, the following screen will appear with a series of options.

  • Company and reference groups – In this option, the company’s technicians can make a graphic comparison of the results obtained during a defined period in the company as a whole or in a selection of its own farms (Farm, Company and Reference Groups), or in pre-established groups of farms according to different criteria (Selection by Farm Groupings), with the results of one or more reference groups. This section also offers the possibility of defining any of the queries performed in order to be able to perform them again later in User Defined Queries.
  • Monthly census and productions – This option provides the most relevant results obtained each month during the selected annual period, allowing a quick visualization of the annual evolution of the company’s results.
  • Analysis of the evolution of historical data – Allows a more detailed study of the evolution over different periods of one or more indices, as well as a comparison between different farms of the company, and also a comparison with the evolution of these results in the different reference groups.
  • Quarterly reports – In this option, the user can import in electronic format (Word or PDF) the various reports generated periodically by the BDporc system for the company, and which are currently being sent regularly in paper format.
  • Expert results analysis system – This module performs the analysis of those indexes and parameters selected by means of an automatic comparison system with the set of reference values or standards, in order to identify slight or strong deviations that reveal causes that negatively or positively affect both the production process and the present and future economic results.
  • Decision-making aid in sow renewal – This module allows the analysis of the population structure and its relationship with the productive results, calculating a set of parameters and indexes that provide relevant information for decision making in relation to the renewal of reproductive sows.
