Once again, Aragón and Galicia are the communities with the highest number of nominated white-coated pig farms. On November 29, IRTA will award the Capa Blanca Porc d’Or Awards to recognize companies in the pork sector that stand out for improving the efficiency and quality of their production. The Porc d’Or awards aim to encourage and recognize the work of Spanish pork companies in the continuous improvement of the efficiency and quality of pork production.
On November 29, the Zaragoza Auditorium will host more than 1,000 professionals from the pork sector who attend the 31st edition of the Capa Blanca Porc d’Or Awards. Awards organized by the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA), attached to the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which is dedicated to research and technological development in the agri-food field; and that come hand in hand with its BDPorc project, which provides reference information to pork production companies, facilitating decision-making and promoting innovation in the sector. The Porc d’Or Awards are the result of more than 30 years of joint work between IRTA and the sector, recognizing the exceptional work of hundreds of farms throughout Spain and contributing to the progress of the pork sector. This year the gala returns to Aragon after the successful 2021 edition in Huesca, reaffirming its prestige and consolidation after more than three decades of recognition of the effort and professionalism of pig farms. Registration to attend the gala, whose start time will be 7:30 p.m., is open until November 22
88 farms nominated for the 2024 Capa Blanca Porc d’Or Awards
A total of 88 nominated farms are eligible to win one of the gold, silver and bronze Porc d’Or statuettes, classified into four categories by their census and based on three criteria: Longevity (of the sows on the farm; a parameter undoubtedly associated to animal welfare), Numerical Productivity (index that brings together good joint management to obtain the greatest number of piglets weaned per sow per year) and Farrowing Rate (award that recognizes good reproductive management of the farm). In addition, one gold will be awarded for each category for the Lactation Management award and the three special awards will be given: Porc d’Or with Diamond, Porc d’Or from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) for Sustainability and Porc d’One Health by Ceva Animal Health.
