The Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards reveal the nominated farms for their 10th edition

The Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) has published the list of the 41 farms nominated for the 2026 Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards, which recognize excellence in Iberian pig production.
The 10th edition of the Awards will be held on June 12th at the Alcazaba of Jerez de los Caballeros (Badajoz), a historic site with strong ties to the Iberian pig sector. More than 400 professionals from across the value chain will gather there to recognize the work of the country’s most outstanding Iberian pig farms.
Registration open
Registration for the gala opened on May 7th. The registration form and all updated information are also available on the official BDporc website (bdporc.irta.es). Attendance requires prior registration and confirmation from the organizers.
Castilla y León and Extremadura have the majority of the nominated farms
The nominations were determined by the Jury following its meeting on April 16th at the MAPA headquarters, where the technical and production data for 2025 were evaluated. These data cover a total of 85 farms and 71,855 Iberian breeding sows registered in BDporc and distributed throughout Spain.
The analysis also considered aspects such as the balance of the population structure, the consistency and evolution of production parameters, the proper recording of information, and various indicators related to the welfare of sows and piglets, as well as the health and biosecurity conditions of the farm. The process resulted in a total of 41 candidate farms, encompassing the 68 nominations, reflecting the sector’s productive excellence and commitment to continuous improvement.
The autonomous community with the most nominations is Castile and León, with a total of 40 nominations distributed among 21 farms, primarily in the provinces of Valladolid, Salamanca, and Segovia.
It is followed by Extremadura, with 24 nominations corresponding to 14 farms, especially concentrated in the province of Badajoz.
Andalusia has 4 nominations distributed among farms in the provinces of Córdoba, Huelva, Jaén, and Seville. Castile-La Mancha and the Valencian Community complete the list, with one nomination each.
Categories and evaluation criteria
Nominations are grouped into three categories based on farm size (up to 375, between 376 and 900, and more than 901 breeding sows). Within each category, the following technical and production criteria are evaluated and awarded:
Productivity
Longevity
Farrowing Rate
This year, the awards incorporate some adjustments and new features in their technical criteria. The criterion of numerical productivity has been added, replacing the number of piglets born alive, allowing for a more comprehensive view of reproductive performance. Longevity will be evaluated based on the percentage of sows that complete their fifth production cycle, focusing on long-term efficiency and breeding management. Finally, the birth rate maintains its structure, incorporating into the nomination process the assessment of other relevant parameters, such as weaning-to-coverage and weaning-to-fertile-coverage intervals.
Special Awards of the 10th Edition
In addition to the category awards, the 10th edition will feature several special awards recognizing strategic areas within the Iberian pig sector, such as animal health and welfare, biosecurity, environmental sustainability, and integration within the region.
Among the special awards, this year’s highlight is the addition of the ASICI Special Award for Excellence in Iberian Acorn-Fed Pigs, which recognizes the work of farms in managing the acorn-feeding season through a data-driven evaluation model. This award joins the MAPA Sustainability Award, the CEVA Animal Health One Health Award, and the Porc d’Or Ibérico with Diamond, the competition’s highest honor.
This year, a total of 13 farms are nominated for these special awards, distributed among Castile and León (6 nominees), Extremadura (4 nominees), and Andalusia (3 nominees). The farms nominated for these awards will be evaluated in the coming weeks through technical visits and validation by a specialized committee, which will submit its proposal of award-winning farms to the awards jury.
A benchmark event for the Iberian pig sector
The event will bring together producers, technicians, companies, and institutions from the sector at a gathering that has become a key meeting point for sharing knowledge, generating synergies, and highlighting the work of farms.
Organized by IRTA, with ASICI and CEVA Animal Health as co-organizers, these Awards have the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the support of ANPROGAPOR. The Awards also have the involvement of five companies as premium sponsors: Farm Faes, IFR, OPP Group, Sabseg Banasegur, and Semen Cardona.
The Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards are based on the technical foundation of BDporc, the leading platform for analyzing pig production performance in Spain, along with the results of various surveys that characterize farms in relation to sustainability and animal health. In its tenth edition, the Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards have solidified their position as one of the sector’s leading recognitions, contributing to the promotion of professionalization, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the Iberian pork value chain.
