The 30th anniversary of the Porc d’Or Awards kicks off with outstanding news

The Palacio de Congresos de la Llotja de Lleida has been the setting chosen by the Institute for Agro-Food Research and Technology (IRTA) to host the celebration of the 30th edition of the Porc d’Or awards. A gala that will take place on October 20 and that is loaded with news.

The Porc d’Or awards were born with the clear objective of rewarding professionalism, effort and the extraordinary work that is carried out day after day from pig farms throughout Spain to guarantee the future and progress of this sector.

The Capa Blanca Porc d’Or Awards have two new awards

The first novelty of this 30th anniversary comes from the hand of Ceva Salud Animal, new main partner of IRTA in the organization of the Porc d’Or de capa Blanca and Porc d’Or Ibérico Awards, together with the Interprofesional del Porcino de Capa Blanca (INTERPORC) and the Interprofessional Association of the Iberian Pig (ASICI), respectively.

Ceva Salud Animal has designed the One Health Special Award with the aim of promoting and giving voice to actions and projects that promote the comprehensive approach of One Health on pig farms.

The Ceva Animal Health One Health Award seeks to recognize the joint work of farmers and veterinarians who implement innovative measures on their farms to improve animal health: appropriate management practices, establishment of high biosecurity standards, promotion of animal welfare, investment in training and disease prevention. Those interested can consult the bases and obtain more information on how to participate in this call at this link.

On the other hand, from the organization they want to recognize the efforts of farmers not only with productivity, but also with aspects of animal welfare, health and the environment. And from there the other new award was born: the Porc d’Or Award for Lactation Management whose objective is to recognize, among reproductively efficient farms, those that stand out for a high survival rate of piglets during lactation and good husbandry practices. maternity management.

The winning farms will be those that present the highest value of piglet survival among all the farms, a numerical productivity (number of weaners per productive sow and year) above the median of its category (third and fourth quartiles). There will be a total of twelve nominated farms, which will distribute the four awards of this new Award, about which the BDPorc shares all the details on its website.

And of course we must add to the previous two other Special Prizes that were already being awarded. Starting this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Award is renamed the MAPA Award for Sustainability, and it is awarded to a farm that stands out from the rest in terms of Animal Health and Welfare and respect for the Environment. And of course the Porc d’Or with Diamond, the highest award, which will go to the best white layer pig farm based on its productive results, its global management and management, complying of course with sanitary standards, zootechnical and animal welfare.
