87 white-coated pig farms nominated for the Porc d’Or 2023

The gala celebrating the 30th edition of the Porc d’Or awards will take place on October 20 at the Llotja de Lleida Conference Center. Registration is open until October 13 through this link

A gala that comes loaded with news as important as the creation of two new awards (the One Health Award created by Ceva Salud Animal, and the Porc d’Or Award for Lactation Management), Ceva Salud Animal as a new IRTA partner in the organization of the Porc d’Or Awards and the presence of Nandu Jubany with his catering company Jubany Events as those in charge of the gala dinner.

The IRTA created the Porc d’Or awards with the clear objective of rewarding the professionalism, effort and extraordinary work that is carried out day after day from pig farms throughout Spain to guarantee the future and progress of this sector.

During these 30 years, the awards have recognized the work, professionalism, effort and extraordinary essential work of hundreds of companies and pig farms throughout Spain. Some awards that are awarded by a jury made up of personalities of recognized prestige in the industry, livestock research and administration.

Aragón and Galicia, the communities with the most nominated pig farms

A total of 87 nominated farms are eligible to win one of the gold, silver and bronze Porc d’Or statuettes based on three production criteria and classified into four categories based on their census; In addition, for the first time, one gold will be awarded for each category in the Lactation Management Award.

The autonomous community that brings together the most nominations is once again Aragón with a total of 40: 14 farms from Huesca with 22 nominations; 13 farms from Zaragoza with 16 nominations; and 1 farm from Teruel with 2 more nominations. Next is Galicia with 26 nominations: 23 for 17 farms from Ourense; 2 for 2 farms in A Coruña and 1 for 1 farm in Pontevedra. Catalonia follows with 21 nominations for 13 farms and, very closely, Castilla y León with 18 nominations for 14 farms.

Navarra closes the classification with 6 nominations for 6 farms; Castilla-La Mancha and La Rioja with 2 nominations for 2 farms in each of these communities; and, finally, Extremadura and the Valencian Community with one nomination and one farm nominated in both cases.

In addition to these statuettes, three special prizes are awarded:
1. Porc d’Or with Diamond.. For the highest award of these awards, 3 farms have been nominated: the Laguarres – Agropecuaria del Isábena farm, from Mazana Piensos Compuestos, located in Laguarres (Huesca); the Manuel Fernández Feijoo farm, from the Coren company, in Pereira (Ourense); and Granja Solallong, by Joaquim Rovira Baucells, in Sora (Barcelona).
2. Porc d’Or MAPA to Sustainability. The winning farm is shuffled between: Laguarres – Agropecuaria del Isábena, from Mazana Piensos Compuestos, located in Laguarres (Huesca); Porgaor, from ICPOR Soria S.L., in Langa de Duero (Soria); and the Gruca Muro farm, from ICPOR Soria S.L., located in Muro de Agreda (Soria).
3. Porc d’Or One Health awarded by Ceva Salud Animal. There are 3 nominations (teams made up of the rancher and the farm veterinarian): the Eucaliptal farm, from Ingafood, located in Mérida (Badajoz); the La Almenara Farm, from the same company, located in Tauste (Zaragoza); and Josvi Tejares, from Sat Hermanos Chico, located in Tejares de Fuentidueña (Segovia).

The Porc d’Or awards, annual and statewide, are based on the BDporc, the Porcine Reference Data Bank, a tool managed by IRTA to provide reference information to pig production companies as an aid element in making decisions.
Organized and created by IRTA, these awards for excellence in pork production have Ceva Salud Animal as the new main partner from 2023 and the Interprofessional of the White Coated Pork (Interporc), which has accompanied the Porc d’Or since its the beginning.
