Innovation for more efficient and sustainable livestock farming

BDporc has launched the SMARTporc (PID2024-161265OR-I00) project with the aim of developing a data-driven digital tool that helps farmers make better decisions to increase / boost survival and longevity on pig breeding farms.

To achieve this, SMARTporc will leverage the information that farmers already report on platforms such as ECOGAN and GTR, and combine it with precise data obtained through IoT devices: electronic feeders, automatic scales, motion and temperature sensors, and environmental sensors from pilot farms.

With this information, new indices, such as feed conversion ratios, will be calculated, and sow longevity and piglet survival will be modeled. All of this will be integrated into a tool that will act as a digital twin, offering companies affiliated with BDporc the possibility of:

Estimate key parameters that affect sow longevity and piglet survival during lactation.

Predict and simulate scenarios by modifying variables.

Understanding the economic impact of each change.

SMARTporc represents a decisive advance in informed decision-making support, contributing to a more efficient, profitable and sustainable pig sector.
